The Design Project Creation Process Involves Several Steps
We'll meet over a cup of coffee or connect online. We'll discuss your goals and preferences. I'll ask you about your apartment. Together, we'll draft a preliminary technical specification to form the basis of our contract.
We'll meet at your place, take all necessary measurements, and finalize the contract. We'll discuss layout solutions and stylistic preferences.
b) We'll discuss layout requirements, including not just the room composition but also more specific concerns like expectations for storage spaces, utility rooms, and bathrooms.
c) We'll establish an overall style concept by deciding on a basic interior design style and selecting an initial color palette.
d) We'll agree on the level of detail required for the functional and interior design. For instance, do we need to design kitchen modules and built-in furniture in detail, or is it enough to outline their external dimensions? Should we deeply focus on the finer details of the interior, or just define the room perimeters—walls, floors, ceilings, doors, lighting? e) Let's discuss your planned budget for the renovation, so I can suggest solutions and finishing materials that fit within your budget.
f) Let's talk about your stance on potential remodeling that requires official approval.
Typical "stances on remodeling" are roughly as follows:
- Everything must be legal; we don't want to deal with the approval process, so we won't make significant changes to the current plan.
- We are open to considering remodels that can be officially approved.
- We don't intend to get any formal approvals; we are open to any solutions within the bounds of reason.
Usually, the preliminary stage involves at least 1-2 meetings and some online communications. With prompt feedback from you, this stage can be completed in about 2 weeks.
At this stage, I prepare 2-3 or more layout options. You choose the one that suits you best. Then, through several revisions, we refine it to its final state.
I create several visual selections (concepts). This looks like a sheet with the layout solution, showing samples of wall and ceiling finishes, furniture samples, lighting options, and color schemes. We discuss all of this and arrive at a variant that is perfect for you.
A detailed development of the interior. It includes three-dimensional visualizations of all rooms from different angles (up to three angles).
Preparation of detailed drawings and specifications. For example, measurement and installation plans, plans for electrical outlets, water distribution, equipment schedules (doors, flooring, electrical systems, heating, plumbing).
- The working documentation includes a list of the articles of finishing materials used in the project (paints, wallpapers, flooring, tiles, moldings, and other decorative coverings).
- The project also contains a list of furniture units according to the layout solution, but not their articles. The selection of specific furniture models is a subject of a separate work stage.
Procurement is a service for selecting furniture and other interior elements. During the procurement stage, I prepare an estimate for furniture items, accessories, doors, and lighting. I handle the purchasing and organize the delivery of all these items to the site. Procurement is a separate service and is not included in the standard "design project" package.
STAGE 8 CONSTRUCTION SUPERVISION
Construction supervision involves ensuring that the work performed by the construction team meets the requirements of our project's documentation. I visit the site at least twice a week, communicate with the foreman to address any issues that arise, and consult the builders based on the drawings. Construction supervision is not included in the cost of developing the design project and is billed as a separate service.
